🏦ATM Guide (Konbini Edition)
Where to withdraw cash, fee comparisons, and avoiding exchange rate traps.
● 7-Bank (7-Eleven)
Highly Recommended7-Bank ATMs are the gold standard for travelers. They accept virtually all foreign debit/credit cards and operate 24/7.
● E-Net & Lawson Bank
AlternativeFamilyMart uses E-Net ATMs and Lawson uses Lawson Bank. Both support foreign cards but fees may vary depending on card association agreements.
CRITICAL WARNING: DCC (Dynamic Currency Conversion)
When you request a withdrawal, the screen will ask: "Do you want to charge in JPY (Yen) or your local home currency (USD, EUR, etc.)?"
The ATM merchant determines the exchange rate, hiding a markup fee of 4% to 10% above the mid-market rate.
Your bank handles the currency exchange. You get the standard Visa/Mastercard wholesale rate, which is almost always much better.
